How much is a single serving of quinoa?

Question by turynn t: How much is a single serving of quinoa?
I usually eat oatmeal (1/2c dry + 1c water) but I’m trying quinoa for a change. I’ve searched all over and all the recipes or calorie counters are all involved and serve tons of people or I can’t tell if they’re talking dry or wet or what. I just want to know how much quinoa (DRY) and how much water to put in the pot for just *one person* for my breakfast and the nutritonal facts.

Use 1 part quinoa and 2 parts water, bring them to a boil and then simmer, covered for 15 minutes, or until all the water is absorbed. Do not stir the quinoa as it is cooking or it will cook unevenly.
I would say about 1/4 cup dry would yield enough for one person, but I personally eat as much as 1/2 cup (dry).

  1. Since you are new to this wonderful grain, you may not know to toast it first, here are the directions

Here are some recipes to use quinoa, I’ve never eaten it plain like oatmeal, I don’t imagine it would taste all that good.

the first time I made quinoa I used this recipe and fell in love with it
